What we collect, and why
To print and mail your postcard we need your name and billing address (it becomes the card's return address β that's what proves to your representative that you're a real constituent), your message, and the representatives you chose. If you use the Americans Abroad flow, we also use your last U.S. voting address as the return address.
To charge you and send your receipt, Stripe collects your payment details and email address during checkout. We never see or store your card number. We keep your email with your order so we can send the receipt and delivery updates.
If you use the help chat or contact form, we store the name, email, and messages you provide so we can reply.
If you tick the newsletter or contact boxes at checkout (they're optional and off by default), we keep your email on those lists until you ask off.
Who processes it
We're a small service and rely on a few providers, each receiving only what their job needs:
- Stripe β payment processing (your card details never touch our servers).
- Lob β prints and mails the physical postcard, so it receives your name, return address, recipient, and message, and provides USPS tracking scans.
- OpenAI β automated moderation of the message text only, to block hate speech, harassment, and threats before anything is printed.
- Resend β delivers our receipt and delivery-update emails.
- Neon β hosts our database.
We do not sell your data, and there are no advertising trackers on this site. Analytics are self-hosted (Umami), first-party, and cookie-free.
About your message text
Postcard messages are stored so features like campaigns and trending work. A message can appear publicly as an anonymous campaign that others can send too β shown without your name, address, or any other identifying detail. Your personal details are never published.
Retention, your choices, and contact
We keep order records (including the message and delivery history) for accounting, support, and fraud prevention. Tracking pages live behind private, unguessable links and are excluded from search engines.
Want your data removed, want off a list, or just want to know what we hold about you? Email support@postcardstocongress.org and we'll take care of it. We can delete everything except the minimal records we're required to keep for payments.
This service is not directed to children under 13. If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
